SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford junior
Alexis Lopez was named the Southern Conference's Player of the Week when the league released its weekly women's tennis awards Tuesday afternoon.
Lopez earned wins in both singles and doubles in Samford's 4-3 victory at College of Charleston last week. At No. 1 singles, she won, 6-4, 6-3 over Charleston's Slade Coetzee. In doubles, at the No. 2 spot, she and partner,
Lauren Waddles picked up a 6-4 win over Ella Faessler and Nicole Stephens.
For the season, Lopez has a singles record of 6-4, all at the No. 1 spot. She has won her last three matches in a row.
Lopez and the Bulldogs will host Middle Tennessee on Friday, March 17. The match is set for a 1:30 p.m. start from the Samford Tennis Center.
