BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team fell in the series finale of a three-game set with Morehead State, dropping the final game by a score of 5-2 Saturday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 6-5, but the Bulldogs took the series from the Eagles, two games to one. Morehead State improved to 9-3 with the win.
 
Garrett Howe led Samford at the plate, going 3-for-4 on the day. John Anderson went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Will Lynch (0-1) took the loss on the mound, tossing 3.1 innings, allowing four runs, just three earned, on one hit.
 
For Morehead State, Jackson Feltner drove in three runs in a 1-for-4 performance. Nick Gooden went 2-for-3 with two runs scored for the Eagles. Joe Rotkis (3-0) earned the win on the mound for MSU, pitching 4.0 innings, allowing one run on seven hits. Jarrett Miller picked up his third save of the season, tossing the final hitless inning for the Eagles.
 
Samford took the early lead when Garrett Staton walked and later scored on a wild pitch in the second inning. After MSU took the lead with two runs in the top of the third inning, Samford's Anderson doubled to drive in Lucas Steele to knot the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the third.
 
In the top of the fourth inning, MSU's Chase Vinson scored on a wild pitch, and Feltner drove in two runs with a double for a 5-2 Eagles' lead. Neither team could score the rest of the way as Morehead State came away with the 5-2 victory.
 
Samford will play host to Alabama on Tuesday, Mar. 7. The game is set for a 6 p.m. start from Joe Lee Griffin Field.
