BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team earned a 4-1 win over Toledo in the second game of a non-conference series Saturday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 20-15 overall, and the Bulldogs earn the series win over the Rockets. Toledo falls to 15-19 with the loss.
 
Samford was led in the win by John Anderson, who homered, going 1-for-3 with an RBI. Jayden Davis doubled and drove in two runs in a 1-for-4 performance at the plate.
 
Brody Westbrooks (3-2) pitched 6.0 innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out nine batters to earn the win on the mound for Samford. Jake Hollifield pitched the final 3.0 scoreless innings to pick up his first save of the season.
 
For Toledo, Brayden White went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jack Walker (1-3) tossed 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on three hits to take the loss for the Rockets.
 
Toledo struck first in the game with a run in the top of the fourth inning. White reached base on an infield single, driving in Troy Sudbrook for a 1-0 Toledo lead.
 
Samford took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Davis doubled to left-center field to drive in the first two runs. Stephen Klein later singled to drive in the third run of the inning for a 3-1 Samford lead. In the sixth inning, Anderson homered to left field to give Samford a 4-1 advantage.
 
Samford and Toledo will conclude their series with a game Sunday afternoon. The contest is set for a 12 p.m. start from Joe Lee Griffin Field.
