Baseball Hosts UAB in Final Home Contest of Season Tuesday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Baseball Team will play its final home game of the 2023 season on Tuesday when they host the UAB Blazers in a crosstown midweek matchup.

First pitch from Joe Lee Griffin Field is set for 6:00 p.m. (CST), with the contest streaming live on ESPN+.

Tuesday's contest will be the 93rd meeting between Samford and UAB, with the Blazers holding a 60-32 series advantage. The matchup has seen mixed results over the last five years, with both teams each claiming four wins in the last eight contests.

The Bulldogs fell 9-5 at UAB on March 14 earlier this season, with Jayden Davis and Lucas Steele each collecting a team-high three hits in the setback.

The Bulldogs (29-22, 12-6 SoCon) took two of three games at home this past weekend against Kansas, winning game one on Thursday 3-2 and clinching the series with a 9-7 rubber-match victory on Saturday.

Josh Rodriguez led the Bulldogs in hitting last week, posting a .545 (6-11) average in their series victory over the Jayhawks. The junior outfielder slugged 1.091 with a .500 OBP while leading the team with five RBI and a pair of homers.

Davis continues to add to his program-record hitting streak, extending it to 34 games with a base knock in each contest this past weekend. The freshman infielder is batting .418 (56-137) over the course of his record-breaking hitting streak.

Samford's final home game in 2023 wraps up an impressive body of work put together by the Bulldogs this season, where they posted a record of 21-5 in games played at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

The Bulldogs have batted .284 at home with a .496 team slugging percentage. Davis has posted a team-high .372 batting average at home while Steele has been Samford's biggest power threat with a team-leading eight homers and 19 RBI.

Samford sports a 3.50 team earned run average at home, highlighted by closer Ben Petschke's 0.00 ERA with nine saves and a 2-0 record.

The Blazers (15-35, 6-20 C-USA) salvaged their C-USA series at Middle Tennessee by avoiding a sweep with a 6-2 win in the series finale on Sunday.

Logan Braunschweig leads the Blazers in hitting at .327 while Brayton Brown has driven in a team-high 30 runs with a team-best 15 doubles.

Leo Harris sports a team-low 2.79 ERA while John Luke Marlin has logged a team-high three saves with a 4.13 ERA.
