Samford Football Opens Preseason Camp

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Coming off the best season of the Chris Hatcher era, the defending Southern Conference champion Samford football team opened fall camp on Monday morning with a nearly two-hour practice inside Seibert Stadium.

Monday marked the first time that the Bulldogs have taken to the field as a team since spring football concluded in early April.

"I thought we had a lot of hustle," Hatcher said. "Execution lacked in some of the phases, but I saw good competition. The old guys picked up where they left off in the spring and we saw the new guys do good things."

Overall, the head Bulldog with the most wins in program history was pleased with the competitiveness on the first day of fall practice.

"Offensively, I thought we ran the ball a little better than we have back in spring practice," Hatcher said. "Defensively, I think our backend is very fast and athletic, we just have to learn what to do. I saw a lot of contested balls that were in the air, which was good."

Samford opens the 2023 season by hosting Shorter on Thursday, Aug. 31, at 6 p.m. at Seibert Stadium. Tickets are on sale now at SamfordTickets.com
