Volleyball Set for Trio of Matches at Bulldog Classic

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Volleyball team will take to the road this weekend for three contests in Athens, Ga. as part of the Bulldog Classic, hosted by the University of Georgia.

The Bulldogs will play a pair of matches on Thursday, taking on Army at 11:30 a.m. (CST) and Jacksonville University at 4:00 p.m. (CST). Samford will wrap up the trip by taking on Georgia at 5:00 p.m. (CST) on Friday.

Samford dropped two of three contests at home over Labor Day Weekend. The Bulldogs fell to Evansville 3-1 on Sept. 1 and 3-0 to Florida State on Sept. 4 while besting North Alabama 3-1 on Sept. 3.

Junior Outside hitter Gracie Lynn Butler logged a team-high 47 kills over three day's work while sophomore Kaleigh Meritt recorded 34 and Kayla Keshock added 23.

On the defensive side, junior libero Kate Morgan tallied a team-best 41 digs while freshman setter Lexi Thatcher registered 36 digs and a team-high 105 assists.

Both Butler and Thatcher compiled a double-double in the Bulldogs' 3-1 win over UNA, with Butler finishing with 18 kills and 10 digs and Thatcher notching 44 assists and 18 digs.

Thursday will be the Bulldogs' first meeting with Army. They trail Jacksonville 5-3 and Georgia 1-0 in the all-time series.
