GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. UNCG (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's basketball team will look to keep its current 13-game win streak going when the Bulldogs return home to play host to UNC Greensboro Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center.
 
Samford enters Thursday night's game with a mark of 13-2 overall and 2-0 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs earned an 80-64 win at The Citadel Saturday. Samford's 13-game win streak is the longest win streak since the 1998-99 team also won 13-straight games, tying it for the longest in the Division I history of the program. The overall school record for longest win streak is 14 by the 1960-61 team. The streak is also the second-longest active streak in the nation, behind only Houston at 14 games.

Samford and UNC Greensboro have met 34 previous times, with the Spartans holding a 20-14 series lead. Samford won both meetings last season, winning at UNCG, 70-68, and then earning an 83-71 win at home.
 
So far this season, Samford has been led by junior Achor Achor, averaging 14.9 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, leading the team in both categories. He led the team with 19 points, playing just 12 minutes in Saturday's win at The Citadel. Junior A.J. Staton-McCray is averaging 13.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. Rylan Jones leads the team in assists, dishing out 5.2 assists per contest.
 
Entering this week, Samford ranks in the top 10 in the nation in several categories. Samford ranks in the top 10 in bench points per game (5th-38.80 ppg.), assists per game (3rd-20.5), fastbreak points per game (2nd-18.47 pg.), scoring offense (4th-89.5 ppg.), steals per game (6th-11.0 pg.), three-point percentage (5th-40.6%) and turnovers forced per game (8th-18.00 pg.).
 
Samford currently leads the Southern Conference in scoring (89.5 ppg.), scoring margin (+15.3), field goal percentage (.491), three-point field goal percentage (.406), three-pointers made per game (10.9), turnover margin (3.67), assists (20.47 pg.) and steals (11.00 pg.).
 
The UNC Greensboro Spartans have a mark of 11-4 overall and 2-0 in SoCon play. UNCG defeated ETSU, 70-54 Saturday.
 
UNCG has been led so far this season by Mikeal Brown-Jones, averaging 18.6 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Keyshaun Langley is scoring 14.2 points per game for the Spartans. Donovan Atwell is currently averaging 11.7 points per game for UNCG. Kobe Langley leads the Spartans in assists, dishing out 5.8 assists per game. He is also scoring 9.1 points per game for UNCG.
