GAME NOTES--SAMFORD AT THE CITADEL (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford soccer team will travel to Charleston, S.C., to take on The Citadel Bulldogs Thursday at 12 p.m. (CT) at Washington Light Infantry Field, and then will host Furman Sunday at 1 p.m. at Shauna Yelton Field.

Samford and The Citadel have met 21 previous times, with Samford owning an 18-2-1 series lead. Last season, Samford earned a 3-0 win over The Citadel and Shauna Yelton Field. The last win by The Citadel in the series came in 2002, a 1-0 victory at Shauna Yelton Field. All 21 meetings have come since Samford joined the Southern Conference in 2008.
 
Samford and Furman have played 23 previous times, and Samford leads the series, 12-6-5 series lead. Last season, the teams played to a 1-1 draw in Greenville, S.C. In 2022, Samford picked up a 4-0 win, also in Greenville. The last time the teams played at Shauna Yelton Field was in the 2021 SoCon Tournament championship game, a 4-2 Samford win.
 
Samford enters this week with a record of 5-6-1 overall and 2-1 in the SoCon. The Bulldogs opened Southern Conference play with a 2-0 loss at defending champion Western Carolina. The Bulldogs then earned a 1-0 win at Chattanooga and a 4-2 win over Wofford. 

For Samford so far this season, the Bulldogs have been led by Ella Simpson with four goals and one assist for a team-high nine points. Brooklyn Miller has two goals and three assists for seven points. Layton Glisson has tallied two goals and one assist. Sam De Luca and Fleming Dean have netted two goals each, while Caroline Donovan and Sarah Holland have a goal and an assist each and Whitaker Buchanan has three assists.

In goal Peyton Hull has played 663 minutes with a 2.17 goals against average, while Mia Krusinski has played 360 minutes with a 2.25 GAA. Emma Donley has played 57 minutes and has not allowed a goal.
 
The Citadel enters Thursday's contest with a mark of 4-5-2 overall and 0-3 in Southern Conference play.  The Bulldogs have opened SoCon play with losses to ETSU (6-0), Wofford (4-3) and VMI (2-1).

The Citadel has been led so far this season by Ariana Paez with four goals and four assists for 12 points. Chloe Washington has four goals and one assist. Zoe Santos has been Citadel's main goalkeeper with a 2.18 GAA.
 
Furman currently has a mark of 5-4-2 overall and 1-0-1 in SoCon play. The Paladins' two games schedule for last week were canceled due to the effects of Hurricane Helene. In conference play so far, Furman has defeated VMI and tied Mercer.
 
Furman has been led so far this season by Jenny Jacobson with four goals on the season. Addison Corn and Reese DeJong have split time in goal for the Paladins.
