GAME NOTES -- SAMFORD at MICHIGAN STATE (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford men's basketball team is back out on the road as they prepare for their toughest test to date tomorrow at Michigan State. The game tips a 7 p.m. CST as the 4-1 Bulldogs look to pull the upset over the 3-1 Spartans.
 The Samford Bulldogs picked up their 21st straight home win on Sunday as they defeated Texas Southern 97-82. Rylan Jones is coming off his best game of the season as he scored 18 points and dished out 8 assists in Samford's win over Texas Southern.
The meeting will be the first all-time between the Bulldogs and the Spartans. The Bulldogs have a 1-9 record all-time against Big Ten opponents with the win coming against Nebraska in the 2015-16 season.Â
The Dogs sit 7th in the country in scoring offense coming into the game as they are averaging 97.6 points per game. Samford is in the top 35 in the country in assists with 18.6 per game and 20th in fast break points at 20.8 per game. The depth off the bench has been a strong point for the Dogs as they are 13th in the country in bench points per game with 42 per game. Samford men's basketball enters the night 10th in turnover margin at plus 8.4 a game.
Jaden Brownell continues to lead the Bulldogs in scoring at 15.6 points per game. Rylan Jones is 5th in assists in the country with 34 and Josh Holloway is in the top-20 in the country in steals with 11 through five games this year.
Samford is coming off their best shooting performance of the season as they connected on 20-of-44 attempts from three in their win against Texas Southern. The Dogs have played two games on the road so far this season, a one-point defeat at the buzzer to Cornell and a one-point overtime win at North Alabama.
Michigan State enters the game with a 3-1 record on the season. The Spartans are 3-0 at home so far this year as their lone defeat came to Kansas at the Champions Classic. Michigan State was picked 5th in the Big Ten preseason media poll. The Spartans have made the NCAA Tournament 26 of the 29 years since coach Izzo has been at the helm. MSU has three players averaging double-figures, led by returner Jaden Akins who is averaging 12.0 ppg.
