GAME NOTES -- SAMFORD at ALABAMA A&M (PDF)
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Samford men's basketball faces instate opponent Alabama A&M on the road tomorrow. The game tips at 3 p.m. at the AAMU Event Center as 9-3 Samford takes on a 4-7 home team.
The Samford Bulldogs are coming off a 96-64 defeat at Arizona on Wednesday night. The defeat snapped the Bulldog's five-game winning streak and was their first defeat since Nov. 19 at Michigan State. Samford faces Alabama A&M for the 9th time in the series history and carries a 7-1 mark against the cross-state Bulldogs. Samford has been on a roll at home, winning 25 straight home games at the Pete Hanna Center and their three defeats all coming on the road this season.Â
The Dogs have four players averaging double-figures, led by
Jaden Brownell who averages 14.6 ppg on the season. Defensively, Samford is in the bottom of the country in points per game allowed and field goal percentage, but they are top-5 in the nation in forced turnovers at 17.83 forced per game.
At 11.5 three-pointers made per game, the Dogs are ranked sixth in the nation. Point guard
Rylan Jones runs the show for the Bulldogs and is top-10 in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio at 4.06. Samford continues to get good production off the bench, as ten players average double-digit minutes and they are 16th in bench points per game.
Alabama A&M enters the game with a 4-7 record overall on the season. The A&M Bulldogs are on a four-game skid and they are coming off a 96-67 defeat at UAB on Wednesday. Alabama A&M has gotten one win all-time against Samford, in 2020. Head coach Otis Hughley Jr. is in his third season at A&M, and his Bulldogs were picked 9th out of 12 teams in the SWAC Preseason Poll. Alabama A&M is led by preseason First Team All-Swac performer Chad Moodie who averaged 12.8 ppg.
