GAME NOTES -- AUSTIN PEAY at SAMFORD (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford men's basketball team is riding a four-game winning streak as they return home to host Austin Peay at the Pete Hanna Center this Sunday. The game tips at 2 p.m. as the Bulldogs look to take their record to 9-2 against a Governors side that enters with a 4-4 record.

The Samford Bulldogs are coming off an 88-81 victory at South Carolina State on Thursday night where Trey Fort is coming off a career-high 25 points, going 8-of-10 from three on the night. The Bulldogs are meeting the Governors for the 25th meeting all-time with Austin Peay carrying a 16-8 advantage in the series as the two sides used to meet regularly in the Ohio Valley. 

The Bulldogs look to take their home winning streak to 25 games in a row as the Dogs currently sit as the second-highest scoring team in the nation at 92.4 points per game. The Bulldogs are a top-10 three point team, making 11.5 per game as Samford went 15-for-30 in their last game against SCSU. Jaden Brownell scored 17 points in 17 minutes of play and continues to lead the team in scoring at 15.7ppg while Rylan Jones is seventh in the country in assists, with 63 in ten games this season.

Samford continues to get good production off the bench, as Riley Allenspach, Lukas Walls, and Josh Holloway are all averaging over 7 ppg. Defensively, Samford sits near the bottom of the country in adjusted efficiency and opponent field goal percentage but makes up for it by forcing 18.5 turnovers per game which is top-5 in the nation. 

Austin Peay enters the game with a 4-4 record on the season. After a 3-0 start to the season, the Governors have lost 4 of their last 5 games. Austin Peay is led by LJ Thomas who scores 19.4 points per game on the season. The Governors are led by head coach Corey Gipson who is in his second season at the helm of the program and led Austin Peay to a 2024 Atlantic Sun Championship game appearance.
