Bulldogs To Host Catamounts In Nationally Televised SoCon Showdown

GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. WESTERN CAROLINA (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --
The Samford men's basketball team will return home to play host to Western Carolina Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center. The game can be seen live on ESPNU.
 
Samford and Western Carolina have met 31 previous times, with Samford owning a 17-14 series lead. The teams met earlier this season, with Samford earning a 75-71 win in Cullowhee, N.C.
 
Samford enters Wednesday night's game with a mark of 22-3 overall and 11-1 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs most recently played at VMI Saturday afternoon, picking up a 102-63 Southern Conference road win. Samford has won 22 of its last 23 games.
 
Entering Wednesday night's game, Samford is led by junior Achor Achor, averaging 15.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, leading the team in both categories. Junior A.J. Staton-McCray is averaging 12.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Rylan Jones leads the team in assists, dishing out 5.2 assists per contest. Jermaine Marshall averages 10.7 points per game for Samford.
 
Entering this week, the Bulldogs rank fourth in the nation in scoring offense, averaging 88.0 points per game. Samford also ranks in the top 10 in the nation in three-point percentage (2nd-40.7), fastbreak points per game (5th-16.52), steals per game (2nd-11.1), bench points per game (5th-35.60), assists per game (5th-18.8), turnovers forced per game (6th-17.52) and winning percentage (T-4th-88.0).
 
Samford currently leads the Southern Conference in scoring (88.0 ppg.), scoring margin (+14.1), field goal percentage (.498), three-point field goal percentage (.407), turnover margin (4.24), assists (18.76 pg.) and steals (11.08 pg.).
 
The Western Carolina Catamounts enter Wednesday night's game with a mark of 18-7 overall and 7-5 in Southern Conference play. The Catamounts most recently played host to Mercer Saturday afternoon, with Western Carolina earning a 79-46 win over the Bears.
 
Western Carolina has been led so far this season by Vonterius Woolbright, averaging 22.4 points, 12.3 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game. Tre Jackson currently averages 13.9 points per game for the Catamounts. D.J. Campbell and Russell Jones Jr. are both averaging 12.0 points per game so far this season.
