GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. PURDUE (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford University baseball team will travel to West Lafayette, Ind., to take on the Purdue Boilermakers in a four-game series this weekend. The teams are scheduled to play a single-game Friday at 3 p.m. (CT), a doubleheader Saturday at 12 p.m. (CT) and a single game Sunday at 12 p.m. (CT).
 
Samford has named right-handed pitcher Michael Ross as its starter in Game 1 of the series. Ross has a record of 3-0 and an ERA of 3.22. Purdue will start left-handed pitcher Jordan Morales (3-1, 3.09 ERA) in Friday's series opener.
 
Samford and Purdue have met nine previous times, with Samford owning a 6-3 series lead. The teams last met in a single game in 2014 at Joe Lee Griffin Field, with Samford earning a 4-3 win.
 
Samford has a record of 10-5, and most recently won two-of-three games from Charleston Southern last weekend. So far this season, Samford has been led at the plate by Garrett Howe, batting .490 (25-of-51) with seven doubles, two home runs and 10 RBI. John Anderson is hitting .405 (19-of-47) with three doubles, five home runs and 19 RBI.

As a team, Samford currently leads the Southern Conference in home runs with 25. Individually, Garrett Howe ranks second in the SoCon in batting average (.490), hits (25), doubles (7), on-base percentage (.597) and runs scored (24). Garrett Staton ranks third in the SoCon in runs scored (21). Brooks Rice ranks third in the SoCon in batters struck out looking (8).
 
Purdue has been led offensively by Luke Gaffney, batting .468 with eight doubles, three home runs and 23 RBI. Camden Gasser is hitting .408 with three doubles and 11 RBI.
