WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Samford University baseball team was swept in a doubleheader at Purdue Saturday at Alexander Field. The Bulldogs dropped the first game, 6-1, and then fell in a 10-inning slugfest, 13-12, in game two of the twin bill.

With the losses, Samford now has a record of 11-7. Purdue improved its season record to 15-5. Purdue now leads the four-game series, two games to one, with the final game coming Sunday at 12 p.m. (CT).

In game one for Samford,
John Anderson went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Lucas Steele drove in a run, going 1-for-4 for the Bulldogs.
Brooks Rice (3-2) pitched 5.0 innings, giving up six runs, five earned, on six hits to take the loss on the mound for Samford.

For Purdue in game one, Connor Caskenette and Logan Sutter both homered to lead the way at the plate. Luke Wagner (4-0) tossed 6.0 innings, giving up one run on six hits to earn the win for the Boilermakers. Jackson Dannelley pitched the final 3.0 hitless innings to pick up his fifth save of the season.

Samford jumped on top first when Steele singled to left field to drive in Anderson in the top of the first inning for a 1-0 Samford lead. Purdue, however, plated two runs in each of the first two innings for a 4-1 lead. The Boilermakers added two more runs in the fifth inning to make the final score 6-1.

In the second game for the Bulldogs, Anderson again led the way, going 3-for-6 with a double and three RBI. Steele and
Cullen Horowicz both homered in the second game for Samford.
Carson Lore (0-1) pitched the final 2.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits to take the loss for Samford.

For Purdue in the second game, Keenan Spence and Aaron Dolney both homered. Cole Van Assen (2-0) pitched 2.2 innings in relief, allowing no runs on two hits to earn the win on the mound.

Purdue jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first four innings of the game. Samford, however, plated eight runs in the fifth inning to take a 10-7 lead. The majority of the runs came on a three-run double by Anderson and a two-run home run by Steele.
Andrew Bennett,
Hayden Perry and
Garrett Staton also drove in a run each in the inning.

Purdue scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the lead to 10-8. The Boilermakers took the lead back with four runs in the seventh inning, grabbing a 12-10 advantage.

In the top of the eighth inning, Samford plated two runs to knot the score at 12-12. Perry was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for the first run, and Staton hit a sacrifice fly for the game-tying run.

The teams went into extra innings tied at 12-12. The Boilermakers scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10
th inning on a sacrifice fly by Ty Gill, giving Purdue the 13-12, walk-off win.

Samford and Purdue will continue its series with a single game Sunday. The game is set for a 12 p.m. (CT) start from Alexander Field.
