BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Samford shortstop
Garrett Howe was taken by the Cleveland Guardians in the 11
th round of the Major League Baseball Draft Tuesday afternoon.
In four seasons in a Bulldog uniform, Howe posted a career .304 batting average. His 245 career hits are tied for sixth in program history.
Howe had his best season as a senior in 2024, batting .369, the second-highest average on the team. His 83 hits were tied for the most on the squad this season.
During his career, Howe helped lead Samford to a pair of Southern Conference Tournament titles and NCAA Tournament bids in 2021 and 2023. The 2023 team became the first team in Samford history to win both the conference tournament and regular-season titles in the same season.
