GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. UAB (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford soccer team will play host to cross-town rival UAB Thursday at 6 p.m. and in-state rival Troy Sunday at 3 p.m., both at Shauna Yelton Field.
Samford and UAB will be meeting for the 11th time, with the series tied at 4-4-2. The teams last met in 2022 in a game played at UAB, with the Blazers taking a 1-0 win. In the 10 previous meetings, each team has netted nine goals.
The Bulldogs enter Thursday night's game with a record of 1-1. Samford opened the 2024 season with an impressive 3-1 win over Tennessee Tech and then dropped a 6-0 decision to No. 15 Notre Dame. Samford's three goals so far this season have been scored by
Anna Major,
Layton Glisson and
Fleming Dean, with assists by
Brigid McElderry,
Brooklyn Miller and
Clare Nicholas.
UAB comes into Thursday night's contest with a mark of 1-1. The Blazers won their season opener over ETSU, 1-0, before dropping a 3-1 decision at Louisville. UAB's two goals this season have been scored by Abbey Burns and Abby Graeser. Maia Sirota tallied an assist as well.
Samford and Troy have played 11 previous times, with Samford owning a 10-1 series lead. The teams met last season in Troy, with Samford earning a 1-0 win.
Troy enters the week with a record of 1-0 after a 2-1 win over Eastern Washington last Thursday night. Georgia Mulholland and Delaney Wells scored a goal each in the win for the Trojans. Troy will play at Mercer Thursday evening before taking on Samford Sunday afternoon.
