GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. WESTERN CAROLINA (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford soccer team will open SoCon play at Western Carolina Thursday evening at 6 p.m. (CT), and then will play at Chattanooga Sunday at 12 p.m. (CT).
Samford and Western Carolina have met 19 previous times, with Samford owning a 14-4-1 series lead. The teams met twice last season, with Western Carolina winning the regular-season game, 1-0 at Shauna Yelton Field. The teams also played in the Southern Conference Tournament championship game in Cullowhee, N.C., with the Catamounts taking another 1-0 victory.
Samford and Chattanooga have played 20 previous times, with Samford leading the series, 17-1-2. The teams played twice last season, with Samford winning both meetings. In the regular season, the Bulldogs earned a 2-0 win at home. In the SoCon Tournament quarterfinals, Samford won, 3-2 in double overtime in Johnson City, Tenn.
Samford enters the week with a record of 3-5-1. The Bulldogs have earned wins over Tennessee Tech (3-1), Troy (4-0) and Georgia Southern (1-0), lost to Notre Dame (6-0), Army (2-1), Auburn (5-0), Ole Miss (2-1) and Georgia (2-0), and tied UAB (3-3).
For Samford so far this season, the Bulldogs have been led by
Layton Glisson with two goals and one assist.
Fleming Dean has netted two goals as well.
Brooklyn Miller has tallied a goal and three assists so far this season. Additionally,
Ella Simpson, Carolina Donovan and
Sarah Holland has one goal and one assist each, while
Hanna Rae Himes,
Anna Major,
Anna Martin,
Alexa Minestrella and
Sam De Luca have one goal apiece.
In goal for Samford,
Peyton Hull has played 393 minutes with a 2.75 goals against average, while
Mia Krusinski has played 360 minutes with a 2.25 GAA.
Emma Donley has played 57 minutes and has not allowed a goal.
Western Carolina enters Thursday night's game with a mark of 5-2-2. The Catamounts earned a 4-0 win over Winthrop last Sunday.
Western Carolina has been led so far this season by Milla Siska with six goals so far this season. Kirsten Hahn has tallied four goals and one assist for the Catamounts. Leanne Trudell has started all nine games in goal for WCU, posting a 0.79 goals against average.
Chattanooga comes into the week with a mark of 1-4-3, coming off a 1-1 tie at Belmont last Sunday. The Mocs will play at Wofford Thursday night before hosting Samford Sunday.
The Mocs have been led so far this season by Caroline Richvasky with a team-high three goals. Caroline Ekern has played every minute in goal so far this season for the Mocs, posting a 1.63 goals against average.
