Bulldogs Travel to Mercer in SoCon play

GAME NOTES -- SAMFORD AT MERCER  (PDF)

MACON, Ga. - The Samford men's basketball team hits the road to face Mercer in Southern Conference play tomorrow at 6 p.m. The Bulldgos sit atop the league, as the only unbeaten side in SoCon play and have a 14-3 record overall while the Bears enter the game with a 9-8 record.

The Samford Bulldogs are coming off a 76-69 victory over North Carolina Greensboro on Saturday. The Dogs sit atop the Southern Conference with a 4-0 record. After the win, they are the lone unbeaten team in league play. The Bulldogs have been on a roll at home, winning 28 straight home games at the Pete Hanna Center which is tied for the second-longest streak in the nation. 

Trey Fort has been on a roll offensively, scoring in double digits in nine straight games and over 20 points four times in his last 11 games. Collin Holloway is coming off a 14-point game where he went over the 1,000-point mark for his career. Rylan Jones is 17th in assists with 101, while as team they are 13th in the country in assists per game, averaging 18.2. Jaden Brownell is one of the most efficient scorers in the country as he is second on the team in scoring at 14.4 ppg while shooting 58.7% which is 34th in the country.

The Bulldogs knocked down 9 three-pointers in their win over UNCG. At 11.8 three-pointers made per game, the Dogs are ranked fourth in the nation. Samford is fifth in the nation in offense, scoring 87.5 points per game. Defensively, Samford is forcing 17.7 turnovers per game which is second-best in the country.

Mercer enters the game with a 9-8 record and is 2-2 in SoCon play.  After starting 2-0 in league play, the Bears have lost against ETSU 70-68 and Western Carolina 85-82 with Mercer dropping five of their last six games against the Bulldogs. Head coach Ryan Ridder is in his first season as the head coach of the Bears after previous head coaching stops at Daytona State, Bethune Cookman, and UT Martin. The Bears were picked to finish seventh in the SoCon Preseason Poll. Mercer has four players who average double-figures offensively, led by Ahmad Robinson and Tyler Johnson who each score over 16 ppg.
