GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. ETSU (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford soccer team will return home to host ETSU in a key Southern Conference game Sunday at 1 p.m. at Shauna Yelton Field. The game can be seen live on ESPN+.
Samford and ETSU are meeting for the 16th time, with Samford leading the series, 11-1-3. Last season, the teams played to a 2-2 draw in Johnson City.
Samford enters Sunday's game with a record of 8-2-5 overall and 5-0-2 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs played at Mercer Thursday night, earning a 3-0 win over the Bears.
Samford has been led so far this season by
Sam De Luca with 12 goals and two assists for 26 total points. She leads the SoCon and is tied for fourth in the nation in goals scored and she leads the SoCon in points.
Clare Nicholas has three goals and three assists for nine points.
Martha Bishop has three goals and two assists, while
Sarah Holland has two goals and four assists.
Samford goalkeeper
Peyton Hull has posted a goals against average of 0.87 with 57 saves in 1350 minutes in goal. She is tied for fourth in the nation with nine shutouts.
ETSU, coached by Jay Yelton, the brother of Samford head coach
Todd Yelton, comes into Sunday's game with a mark of 8-2-6 overall and 3-0-4 in the SoCon. The Bucs are coming off a 0-0 draw with Western Carolina Thursday evening.
ETSU has been led so far this season by Reagan Fitzgerald with nine goals and three assists. ETSU goalkeepers Addison Yelton has a 0.67 goals against average with 29 saves in 1335 minutes in goal.
