GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. VMI (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford soccer team will play host to the VMI Keydets Friday at 4 p.m. at Shauna Yelton Field. The game can be seen live on ESPN+.
Samford and VMI are meeting for the 14th time, with Samford winning each of the 13 previous meetings. Last season, the Bulldogs defeated the Keydets, 5-0 in Lexington, Va. Over the 13 previous meetings, Samford has outscored VMI by a combined score of 53-1.
Samford enters Friday afternoon's game with a record of 6-2-5 overall and 3-0-2 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs played at Furman last Sunday, with the teams battling to a 2-2 draw. Samford is currently on a 10-game unbeaten streak.
Samford has been led so far this season by
Sam De Luca with eight goals and one assist for 17 total points.
Clare Nicholas has three goals and three assists for nine points.
Sarah Holland has two goals and three assists, while
Martha Bishop,
Fleming Dean and
Brooklyn Miller have two goals and one assist each.
Samford goalkeeper
Peyton Hull has posted a goals against average of 0.85 with 49 saves in 1170 minutes in goal. She is tied for second in the nation with eight shutouts.
VMI comes into Friday afternoon's game with a mark of 1-12-1 overall and 0-5 in Southern Conference play. The Keydets are coming off a 2-0 loss to Mercer last Sunday.
VMI has been led so far this season by Taliyah Headman and Madelin Karsonovich with two goals and one assist each. VMI goalkeeper Maren Ryberg has posted a 3.45 goals against average with 90 saves in 1042 minutes in goal.
