GAME NOTES -- SAMFORD at CENTRAL ARKANSAS (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford men's basketball team finishes up a three-game in a five-day stretch on Sunday afternoon as they take on Central Arkansas on the road. Their third-straight road game tips at 1 p.m. as the Bulldogs enter with a 2-2 record against a Bears team that is 1-2 on the season.
The Samford Bulldogs and the Bears are meeting for the first time in program history. The Dogs are coming off a 79-75 defeat against No. 21 Arkansas Razorbacks on Friday night, while the Bears' last contest was also at Arkansas on Nov. 11 where they fell 93-56.
Cade Norris and Zion Wilburn each led the Bulldogs in scoring with 15 points each on Friday night, marking career-highs for both. Cade Norris has scored in double figures in back-to-back games after being inserted into the starting lineup in game two of the season. Wilburn had scored just one point off the bench this season before the 15 against Arkansas, where he went 6-of-9 from the floor.
Jadin Booth entered the game against Arkansas as the leading scorer in the country but was held to just 14 points on 3-of-15 shooting. Starting big Dylan Faulkner was productive, with 13 points and six rebounds, despite being in foul trouble for the second-straight game and playing just 22 minutes. The Bulldogs have hit double-digit threes in every game this season as they knocked down 10 against the Razorbacks, but shot a season-low 35 percent from three.
Central Arkansas enters the game with a 1-2 record on the season. The Bears are coming off a 93-56 defeat against Arkansas in their last contest. They fell to North Carolina in their opener and their lone victory came against Champion Christian 110-63. Head coach John Shulman is in his second season with the Bears, leading them to a 9-24 mark last year. The Bears were picked eighth in the ASUN Preseason Coaches Poll and have been led offensively by Ty Robinson who is scoring 13.3 points per game.
