GAME NOTES -- FGCU at SAMFORD (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford men's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of the Pete Hanna Center for the second time this season as they host Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs enter the matchup with a 3-2 record while the Eagles come to town with a 2-2 mark.
The Samford Bulldogs and the Eagles are meeting for just the third time in history between the two programs. FGCU leads the all-time series 2-0, and the sides last met in the 2013-14 season, where the Eagles won 83-51.Â
Samford is coming off an 84-77 overtime win at Central Arkansas in their last game on Sunday afternoon.
Jadin Booth led the Dogs with a team-high 21 points against the Bears, while
Keaton Norris poured in 18 points and
Dylan Faulkner added 16 points. The Bulldogs hit a season-high 15 threes on a high of 44 attempts against UCA. Starting big
Dylan Faulkner had a season-high four blocks and eight rebounds as he took over in the second half against UCA.
The Bulldogs took two of three games of a difficult road stretch against Texas Southern, Arkansas, and Central Arkansas. Freshman
Isaiah Campbell-Finch played well off the bench in two of the three games on the roadtrip, scoring 21 points against Texas Southern and 11 at Central Arkansas. He is the team's leading scorer off the bench with 8.0 ppg. Booth was the nation's leading scorer going into the Arkansas game and now sits 14th in the country with 23.6 ppg.
The features two high scoring sides, FGCU averages 87.8 ppg, which is 80th in the country, while Samford scores 81.2 ppg. FGCU enters the game with a 2-2 record on the season. The Eagles are coming off a 91-73 home victory over Chattanooga in their last game on Nov. 15. They fell at No. 17 Illinois 113-70 on Nov. 7 and 95-94 at home against Georgia Southern on Nov. 11. Head coach Pat Chambers is in his fourth season with the Eagles, leading them to a 19-win season last year. The Eagles were picked fourth in the ASUN Preseason Coaches Poll. FGCU is led by J.R. Konieczny, who is scoring 19.8 points per game.
