Bulldogs To Host Mercer In SoCon Tournament Championship Game Sunday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
 The Samford soccer team will host the Mercer Bears in the championship game of the SoCon Tournament Sunday at 1 p.m. at Shauna Yelton Field. The game can be seen live on ESPN+.

Samford and Mercer are meeting for the 29th time, with Samford holding a 20-3-5 series lead. Earlier this season, the teams played in Macon, Ga., with Samford coming away with a 3-0 victory.

Samford enters Sunday afternoon's game with a record of 12-2-5 overall and 7-0-2 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs earned a 3-2 double overtime win over Furman in the SoCon semifinals last Sunday. Samford is unbeaten in its last 16 games, a new school record.

Samford has been led so far this season by Sam De Luca with 14 goals and four assists for 32 total points. She leads the SoCon and is tied for 14th in the nation in goals scored and is tied for the SoCon lead in points. Her 14 goals are just two away from tying the Samford single-season record of 16 goals scored.
 
Sarah Holland has four goals and four assists, while Martha Bishop and Mamie Carman have four goals and three assists each. Samford goalkeeper Peyton Hull has posted a goals against average of 0.83 with 77 saves in 1726 minutes in goal. She is tied for fourth in the nation in shutouts with 11.
 
Mercer comes into Sunday afternoon's game with a record of 10-6-3 overall and 3-3-3 in Southern Conference play. The Bears advanced to the championship game by earning a 1-0 double overtime win at Western Carolina last Sunday.
 
Mercer has been led this season by Morganne Eikelbarner with nine goals and four assists for 22 total points. Mercer goalkeeper Lindsay Bell has posted a 1.25 goals against average with 50 saves in 1080 minutes in goal.
