GAME NOTES -- SAMFORD vs. FURMAN (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford men's basketball team returns home to the Pete Hanna Center tomorrow night as they play host to Furman. As the Bulldogs come down the home stretch of Southern Conference play, they sit with a 20-7 record and are 10-4 in SoCon play, one game out of first place. Furman enters with a 19-8 record and is 7-7 in league play.
The Samford Bulldogs are coming off a 76-68 victory at Wofford on Saturday. The victory marks the first time the Bulldogs have won at Wofford since the 2011-12 season.
Trey Fort is coming off a career-high 36 points against the Terriers. He almost single-handily carried Bulldog's offense in the first half, scoring 17 of the team's 25 points.
Samford and Furman meet for the 40th time in program history with the Paladins holding a 27-12 series lead. The Dogs fell at Furman 72-70 when the two sides met earlier this season in Greenville, S.C.
Rylan Jones led the way for the Bulldogs with 19 points in that game as he went 7-of-13 from the field.
After being a top-10 scoring team the majority of the season, the Bulldogs are down to 20th in the nation averaging 82.6 points per game. Samford remains a top-five three-point shooting team in the country, averaging 10.9 makes a game. After his career performance,
Trey Fort leads the team in scoring at 14.1 ppg. The Dogs are 20th in the country in assists per game, averaging 16.9 per game. Samford is ninth in the nation in caused turnovers per game at 16.11 per game.
Rylan Jones is averaging 5.2 assists per game on the season.
Furman enters the game with a 19-8 record on the season and sits at 7-7 in SoCon play. The Paladins entered conference play with a 12-1 record with their lone defeat coming against Kansas. Furman is coming off a 58-50 defeat against UNCG at home in their last game. Furman was picked to finish fifth in the Preseason SoCon poll. The Paladins had PJ Smith named to the Preseason SoCon All-Conference team. Two players average double-figures for the Furman with Smith averaging 16.2 ppg and Nick Anderson scoring 13.8 ppg.
