GAME NOTES--SAMFORD AT AUBURN (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University baseball team will travel to Auburn, Ala., to take on the Auburn Tigers Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at Plainsman Park.
Samford enters the week with a record of 3-4. The Bulldogs played a three-game series at fourth-ranked Tennessee over the weekend, falling to the Vols by scores of 5-1, 7-3 and 11-1 in seven innings.
Samford is scheduled to start right-handed pitcher
Brooks Rice on the mound. Auburn has slated right-hander Andreas Alvarez as its starting pitcher.
Samford and Auburn have met 104 previous times, with Auburn holding a 78-25-1 series lead. Last season, the teams only played once, with Auburn picking up a 12-3 win in Auburn. The game in Birmingham was rained out for a second-straight season.
Samford has been led at the plate so far this season by
Cade Carr, batting .400 (8-for-20) with a double, a home run and 10 RBI.
Jeffrey Ince is hitting .333 (8-for-24) with two doubles, a home run and three RBI.
Michael Gupton is hitting .318 (7-for-22) with two doubles and a triple. Freshman
Jake Souders currently ranks second on the team in RBI with six.
Auburn comes into the game with a mark of 7-1. The Tigers swept a three-game series with Wright State over the weekend, winning the games by scores of 11-0, 11-1 and 9-4.
So far this season, Auburn has been led at the plate by Cooper McMurray, batting .464 with four doubles, a home run and 10 RBI. Deric Fabian is currently hitting .429 with a triple, two home runs and 12 RBI.
