The Bulldogs remain the highest-ranked SoCon team in the net ranking at 105, 12 spots ahead of Chattanooga. The winner of the game locks up the two seed in the conference tournament after Chattanooga won the league on Thursday. Head coach Bucky McMillan is one win away from career victory number 100 at Samford.

UNCG enters the game with a 19-11 record and is 12-5 in SoCon play. The Spartans are coming off a 75-63 defeat against Chattanooga on Thursday which clinched the league for the Mocs. UNCG has dropped their last seven games against the Bulldogs. Head coach Mike Jones is in his fourth season as the head coach of the Spartans. The Spartans were picked to finish sixth in the SoCon Preseason Poll and Donovan Atwell was named a Preseason All-Conference player. UNCG is led offensively by Kenyon Giles who scores 15.3 points per game and the Spartans have three players who average double-figures.
