SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Samford men's track and field program had an individual receive Southern Conference accolades today as Carter Ellis was named the SoCon Men's Field Athlete of the Week when the conference office released its weekly track and field awards Wednesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs competed on Sunday at the South Alabama Invitational. In the men's pole vault, Carter Ellis was the best finisher for the Dogs as he came in second place overall on the day clearing a mark of 5.23 meters. The junior from Hoover, Ala. set the fifth-highest bar cleared in Samford indoor program history. The Bulldogs captured a pole vault athlete of the week for the second straight week when competing as Antonina Tereshchenko won the SoCon award after the Samford Invite in mid-January.

The Samford track and field team is back in action this Friday as they compete at the Birmingham CrossPlex again at the UAB Invite.
