GAME NOTES -- SAMFORD at GEORGE MASON (PDF)

FAIRFAX, Va. - The Samford men's basketball team continues play in the postseason as they are set to face George Mason on the road tomorrow night. The Bulldogs are making their first National Invitational Tournament appearance in program history and enter the game with a 22-10 record while the Patriots enter with a 26-8 mark.

The Samford Bulldogs are coming off a 95-78 defeat against Furman in the Southern Conference Tournament. Josh Holloway led the Bulldogs in scoring with 21 points in the game while Jaden Brownell (16 points) and Rylan Jones (11 points) each reached double-figures.

Samford's Josh Holloway was named the Sixth Man of the Year in the SoCon and was named to the All-Defense team. Trey Fort was named to the All-SoCon Third Team while Rylan Jones was named to the All-SoCon Second Team. The Bulldogs and the Patriots are meeting for the first time in program history as Samford makes their first appearance in the NIT.

The Bulldogs are 29th in the country in assists per game at 16.5 per game. The Dogs have been one of the top-scoring teams all season, sitting at 83.3 points per game which is 12th-highest in the country. Samford is a top-ten three-point shooting team in the country, averaging 10.8 makes a game. Trey Fort and Jaden Brownell lead the Dogs in scoring, averaging 14.9 and 13.6 ppg. The Dogs are 4th in the country in forced turnovers per game, averaging 16.31 per game.

George Mason enters the game with a 26-8 record and finished with a 15-3 record in the Atlantic 10. George Mason is coming off a 68-63 defeat against VCU in the Atlantic 10 Championship game. Head coach Tony Skinn is in his second season at George Mason after playing with the Patriots during their final four run. Skinn was named the A-10 Coach of the Year. The Patriots were picked to finish 6th in the A-10 Preseason Poll. GMU had Jared Billups named the Defensive Player of the Year, Tony Skinn win Coach of the Year, Jalen Haynes All-Conference First Team, and Darius Maddox Third Team.
