JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Samford University baseball team dropped a 10-3 decision in the second game of a three-game Southern Conference series at ETSU Saturday afternoon at Thomas Stadium.
With the loss, Samford dropped its season record to 12-11 overall and 0-2 in Southern Conference play. ETSU improved to 18-4 overall and 2-0 in league play.
Samford was led in the loss by
Jake Souders, going 2-for-4 at the plate.
Michael Gupton hit a two-run home run in a 1-for-2 performance.
Cameron Keshock (3-1) pitched 5.2 innings, giving up eight runs, seven earned, on 10 hits to take the loss on the mound for Samford.
For ETSU, Blake Jacklin went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI. Jamie Palmese homered and drove in two runs, while Tristan Curless hit a solo homer for the Bucs. Jace Hyde (4-0) pitched 7.1 innings, giving up three runs on six hits and striking out 10 batters to earn the win on the mound for the Bucs.
ETSU took the lead first with four runs in the bottom of the third inning. In the top of the fourth inning, Samford's
Parker McDonald scored on an error to cut the lead to 4-1.
The Bucs added four more runs in the sixth inning to push their lead to 8-1. In the top of the eighth inning, Gupton hit a two-run home run to left field to cut the lead to 8-3. ETSU plated two final runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to make the final score 10-3.
Samford and ETSU will conclude their series with a game on Sunday at 12 p.m. (CT).
