GAME NOTES--SAMFORD AT ALABAMA (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University baseball team will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to take on the eighth-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The game can be seen live on SECN+.
Samford enters the week with a record of 14-14 overall and 1-2 in SoCon play. Last week, Samford played a midweek game at Mississippi State Tuesday night, falling, 6-1. The team dropped two-of-three games to Creighton over the weekend.
Samford and Alabama have met 115 previous times, with Alabama holding a 100-15 series lead. Last season, Alabama earned a pair of wins over Samford, winning, 11-10 in Birmingham and by a score of 14-5 in Tuscaloosa.
Samford is scheduled to start right-handed pitcher
Brooks Rice in Tuesday night's game. Rice has an 0-2 record and a 9.39 ERA. Alabama has listed right-handed pitcher J.T. Blackwood as its starting pitcher. Blackwood is 2-0 with a 3.74 ERA.
Cade Carr is currently leading Samford in hitting with a .375 (36-for-96) average with eight doubles, five home runs and a team-high 37 RBI. His 37 RBI rank third in the Southern Conference.
Jeffrey Ince is hitting .337 (33-for-98) with six doubles, three home runs and 19 RBI.
Michael Gupton is hitting .323 (30-for-93) with six doubles, three home runs and 13 EBI.
Parker McDonald is hitting .321 (27-for-84) with five doubles, seven home runs and 22 RBI.
Alabama enters Tuesday night's game with a mark of 25-4 overall and 6-3 in the SEC. The Crimson Tide defeated North Alabama, 4-3 in a midweek game last week and they won two of three games at Oklahoma over the weekend.
Alabama has been led by Kade Snell, batting .421 (45-for-107) with eight doubles, five home runs and 24 RBI. Justin Lebron leads the team in home runs with 13 and in RBI with 52.
