Baseball To Host No. 18 Alabama Tuesday Evening

GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. ALABAMA (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
 – The Samford University baseball team will return home to play host to the 18th-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The game can be seen live on ESPN+.
 
Samford and Alabama have met 116 previous times, with Alabama holding a 101-15 series lead. The teams met earlier this season in Tuscaloosa, with Alabama coming away with an 11-9 win.
 
Samford is scheduled to start right-handed pitcher Brooks Rice in Tuesday evening's contest. Alabama has set right-handed pitcher Bobby Alcock as its starter on the mound.
 
Samford enters the weekend with a record of 22-17 overall and 8-4 in SoCon play. Last weekend, Samford won two-of-three games at VMI. After dropping the first game, 11-8, Samford came back to take game two, 9-2 and game three, 16-4, in seven innings.
 
Cade Carr is currently leading Samford in hitting with a .354 (51-for-144) average with 11 doubles, seven home runs and a team-high 48 RBI. His 48 RBI are tied for fifth in the Southern Conference. Jeffrey Ince, who was named the SoCon Player of the Week, hitting .342 (50-for-146) with 13 doubles, eight home runs and 27 RBI. Michael Gupton is hitting .326 (43-for-132) with six doubles, eight home runs and 28 RBI. Jake Souders is hitting .325 (52-for-160) with nine doubles, six home runs and 32 RBI. Jackson Harris has an average of .321 (44-for-137) with 11 doubles, three home runs and 32 RBI.
 
Alabama enters the week with a mark of 31-10 overall and 9-9 in SEC play. The Crimson Tide dropped two-of-three games at LSU over the weekend. Alabama took a midweek game from UAB, 5-3, last Tuesday.
 
Alabama has been led at the plate so far this season by Kade Snell, batting .378 (56-for-148) with nine doubles, seven home runs and 34 RBI. Justin Lebron leads the team in home runs with 15 and in RBI with 59.
