SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Samford men's and women's track and field team received Southern Conference recognition today from the conference office. Erin Long and Arthur Chitty were named Field Athletes of the Week in the conference after their performances at the Jaguar Outdoor Invitational.

Erin Long earned the SoCon Women's Field Athlete of the Week after she delivered a first-place performance in the women's javelin throw this past weekend. She had a best throw of 49.43 meters as she defeated the field at South Alabama. She currently sits 47th in the country in the event.

Arthur Chitty delivered the performance of the weekend en route to a win in the men's high jump. The sophomore set a school record after clearing 2.22 meters as he won the event at the Jaguar Invitational. Chitty currently sits fifth in the nation in the men's high jump after his performance this weekend.

The Bulldogs have won seven outdoor track and field weekly awards so far this season, most of any school in the SoCon. Samford is back in action on Thursday and Friday as they travel to Mississippi State at the Maroon and White Tune Up.
