GAME NOTES--SAMFORD AT GEORGIA SOUTHERN (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford soccer team will open the 2025 season by playing at Georgia Southern on Thursday, Aug. 14, at 5 p.m. (CT) in Statesboro, Ga.
Samford and Georgia Southern have met 11 previous times with Samford holding a 9-0-2 series lead. The teams last met in 2024, with Samford taking a 1-0 win at home. Samford and Georgia Southern were co-members of the Southern Conference from the 2008 through 2013 seasons when Georgia Southern left for the Sun Belt Conference.
Samford returns three starters and 11 letterwinners from last year's team that posted a record of 12-7-3 overall and 6-1-2 in Southern Conference play.
Samford's leading returning scorer is
Sam De Luca. Last season, De Luca netted five goals and dished out two assists for a total of 12 points.
Fleming Dean was named preseason All-SoCon after tallying four goals and one assist for nine points last season. Sophomore goalkeeper
Peyton Hull returns after spending the majority of the 2024 season as the team's starter. She played 1,544 minutes in goal, posting a 1.81 goals against average, saving 74 shots for the season.
Georgia Southern posted a record of 6-11-2 overall and 3-6-1 in Sun Belt play last season. The Eagles return three of their top five scorers from last season. Claire Casey is the leading returning scorer as she had four goals and one assist for nine total points in 2024.
