Bulldogs To Open SoCon Play With Preseason Favorite Western Carolina Thursday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
 The Samford soccer team will open Southern Conference play by hosting Western Carolina in a battle of the top two teams in the SoCon's preseason poll Thursday at 6 p.m. at Shauna Yelton Field. The game can be seen live on ESPN+.

Samford and Western Carolina have met 21 previous times, with Samford owning a 15-5-1 series lead. Last season, WCU won the regular season meeting, 2-0, but Samford defeated the Catamounts, 1-0 in the SoCon Tournament championship game. Samford and Western Carolina have met in the last two SoCon title games, with WCU winning in 2023 and Samford winning in 2024. In the last five meetings, WCU leads, 3-2 and in the last 10 meetings, Samford leads, 7-3.
 
Samford enters Thursday night's game with a record of 3-2-3. The Bulldogs are coming off a 0-0 draw at UAB Sunday evening. Samford has not allowed a goal in its last five games.

So far this season, Sam De Luca leads Samford with three goals and one assist for a total of seven points. Martha Bishop and Sarah Holland have a goal and an assist each. Brooklyn Miller, Clare Nicholas, Avery Stevens and Becca Koenig have one goal apiece so far this season. Samford goalkeeper Peyton Hull has posted a goals against average of 0.75 with 24 saves in 720 minutes in goal.
 
Western Carolina enters Thursday night's game with a record of 4-3-2. The Catamounts are coming off a 2-0 win at UNC Wilmington Friday evening.

Western Carolina has been led so far this season by Sofia Goclowski with three goals and one assist for seven total points. WCU goalkeeper Leanne Trudel has a 1.22 goals against average with 38 saves in 810 minutes in goal.
