Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Samford volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (19-25, 17-25, 21-25) match at UNCG Friday evening.
With the loss, Samford are now 5-7 overall and start Southern Conference play 0-1. Furman improved its record to 8-5 overall and start league play at 1-0.
For Samford in the loss,
Kaleigh Meritt had 14 kills and 10 digs.
Shea Bruntmyer tallied 29 assists, and
Greer Golden had four blocks.
UNCG was led by Allie Sweet who had 12 kills, six digs and three blocks.
In the first set, Samford struggled to jump ahead of the Spartans, they eventually went on to take a late lead 16-20. After a couple of errors by the Bulldogs and then a kill from Sweet, the Spartans took the opening set, 25-19.
In the second set. The Spartans built their lead to 21-12. Samford scored a few points to try to cut the lead, but the Bulldogs could not pull themselves out as UNCG won the second set, 25-17.
In the third set, Samford and UNCG traded points back and forth before UNCG took a late four-point lead, 24-20 and the Spartans won the third set, 25-21 and the match, 3-0.
Samford will remain on the road to play at Furman on Saturday, Sep. 27. The match is set for a 3 p.m. start and will be streamed on ESPN+..
