GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Samford volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (23-25, 20-25, 19-25) match at Furman Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, Samford are now 5-8 overall and will continue Southern Conference play at 0-2. Furman improved its record to 11-3 overall and continue league play at 2-0.
For Samford in the loss,
Sydney Waller had 15 kills while
Shea Bruntmyer collected 26 assists, and
Kaleigh Meritt had 8 kills and 11 digs.
Furman was led by Ashley Stein with 12 kills and three digs.
In the first set, Samford opened with an early 8-3 lead, with a service ace from
Ally Cordes. After several kills from the Paladins and a couple errors from the Bulldogs, Furman took the opening set, 25-23.
In the second set Bulldogs and Paladins traded points back and forth until several points and an ace from Paladin, Quinn Morrissey put them up 16-11. Bulldogs couldn't find a lead in the set and paladins ended up winning the second set, 25-20. Samford couldn't seem to gain momentum in the third set and went on to drop the the set, 19-25 which gave Furman the match, 3-0.
Samford will return to The Pete Hanna Center on Friday, Oct. 3 to continue conference play. The match is set for a 6:30 p.m. start and will be streamed on ESPN+.
