BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford volleyball team will travel to Knoxville, Tenn., to compete in a tournament hosted by the University of Tennessee on Thursday and Friday. The Bulldogs will take on Winthrop Thursday at 4 p.m. (CT) and Tennessee Friday at 1 p.m. (CT).
Samford enters the tournament with a record of 1-1. Last weekend, Samford hosted Georgia on Friday, falling, 3-0 and Troy on Sunday, earning a 3-2 victory.
Samford has been led so far this season by preseason All-SoCon selection
Kaleigh Meritt with 31 kills.
Ally Cordes followed with 30 kills through the first two matches of the season. Cordes also leads the team in digs with 18 through the first weekend of the season. Meritt had 13 digs, while
Shea Bruntmyer has 12 digs, to go along with her 79 assists.
Samford and Winthrop will be meeting for just the second time ever in volleyball. The only previous meeting came on Oct. 27, 2001, with Winthrop earning a 3-2 win at Seibert Hall.
Samford and Tennessee will be meeting for the first time ever in volleyball.
