GAME NOTES -- SAMFORD at UNCG (1/3/26)
GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Samford men's basketball team continues play in the Southern Conference as they face off at UNCG tomorrow afternoon. The game is set for a 3 p.m. central tip as the Bulldogs and the Spartans each enter the game 1-0 in league play.
The Samford Bulldogs take on UNCG in their second straight Southern Conference road game. The Bulldogs and the Spartans are meeting for the 59th time. The two sides have split the series evenly 29-29 all-time.
Samford is coming off a 78-58 win at VMI on Thursday to open their season at 1-0 in league play. The Dogs used a dominant second half, outscoring the Keydets 44-22 overall, and used a 24-0 scoring run to take control of the game. The Bulldogs were led by Dylan Faulkner, who had a career day. He set his career high with 25 points and tied his high with 12 rebounds. The junior center went 9-of-15 from the floor and has scored in double figures in six consecutive games. Jadin Booth scored 16 of his 19 points in the second half, going a perfect 5-of-5 from the field, while Keaton Norris stuffed the statsheet, finishing with 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.\
With the win over VMI, the Bulldogs ride their longest winning streak of the season, four straight games. Samford fell at UNCG 108-100 last season, but had won the previous seven matchups between the two sides prior to that game. So far on the season, the Dogs take care of the ball and rebound the ball at top marks across the SoCon. They are second in assist/turnover ratio, and they are the best defensive rebounding team in the league.
UNCG enters the game with a 5-9 record on the season. The Spartans are coming off a 77-72 victory over Chattanooga on Thursday afternoon. Head coach Mike Jones is in his fifth season with the Spartans, leading them to 20-win seasons the past three years. The Spartans were picked to finish fifth in the SoCon Preseason Coaches Poll, and are led in scoring by Justin Neely, who averages 15 points per game.Â
