GAME NOTES -- SAMFORD vs. CHATTANOOGA
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford men's basketball team returns home to host Chattanooga at the Pete Hanna Center tomorrow afternoon. The tip has been rescheduled to 1 p.m. and the game will be nationally televised on ESPNNews. Both sides enter the game with a 9-11 record on their seasons.
The Bulldogs and Mocs are meeting for the second time this season and the 116th meeting all-time, with Chattanooga leading the all-time series 69-46. When the two sides met earlier this season, the Bulldogs fell 88-79 on the road.
Dylan Faulkner and
Jadin Booth had 24 and 23 points respectively, two weeks ago in Chattanooga. Samford fell behind by 28 points against the Mocs in the first half but got the deficit down to four points late before running out of time.
The Bulldogs have dropped four games in a row, by a total of 24 points combined. The Dogs fell at Wofford 88-78 during the midweek game on Wednesday as the Terriers closed the game on a 10-0 run. Booth led the Bulldogs with 27 points on 11-of-21 shooting while Faulkner controlled the paint on the offensive end, going 7-for-9 from the floor and finishing with 18 points. Samford's two point guards, Keaton Norris and Isaiah Campbell-Finch, combined for 20 points. The Bulldogs take care of the ball, ranking fourth in the nation in turnovers per game and are first in the conference and 18th nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio.
Chattanooga enters the game with a 9-11 record on the season and is 3-4 in SoCon play. The Mocs are coming off a 67-66 home loss against ETSU in their last game. Head coach Dan Earl is in his third season at Chattanooga and won 29 games last season. The Mocs were picked to finish first in the SoCon Preseason Coaches Poll. Five Mocs scored in double figures when they met the Dogs two weeks ago, led by Jordan Frison, who had 16 points. He is the team's leading scorer and only player to average double figures at 15.3 points per game.
