BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball program held its annual First Pitch Dinner Sunday evening in the Coca-Cola Hospitality Suite in the Pete Hanna Center.
 
The First Pitch Dinner is held each year as a kick start to the upcoming season and a show of appreciation for the program's booster club.
 
Samford head coach Tony David, entering his fifth year in charge of the program and his 22^nd season with the team overall, leads the program into a season with high expectations. He said he was excited to host the Diamond Society members to thank them for all they do for the Samford baseball program.
 
"This is such a great night for us here to celebrate and honor the Diamond Society," David said. "They do so much for our program and really make all things possible. This is a kick start to our 2026 season, which will be here in a couple of weeks for real. But this gives us an opportunity to host our Diamond Society members here and to show them what they do and the impact they have on our team."
 
After the group was served dinner, provided by Walk-On's Sports Bistreaux, assistant coach Gil Walker talked about the technology the coaching staff uses to help the players in their development. Walker then hosted a Q&A session with a few position players. Following the Q&A, associate head coach Tyler Shrout talked about the program and then hosted a Q&A with a few members of the pitching staff. The night concluded with David giving an overview of the program and the upcoming season.
 
Samford will open the 2026 season on Friday, Feb. 13, when the Bulldogs play host to Belmont. The game is set for a 4 p.m. start from Joe Lee Griffin Field.
