Samford Baseball To Host Alabama Tuesday

GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. ALABAMA (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
 – The Samford University baseball team will play host to the Alabama Crimson Tide Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The game can be seen live on ESPN+.
 
Samford is scheduled to start right-handed pitcher Joseph Lee on the mound Tuesday night. This will be Lee's first appearance of the season. Alabama has slated right-handed pitcher J.T. Blackwood (0-0, 6.75 ERA) as its starter on the mound.
 
Samford and Alabama have played 117 previous times, with Alabama holding a 102-15 series lead. Last season, Alabama won both meetings, taking the first game, 11-9 and the second game by a score of 11-7.
 
Samford comes into the week with a record of 2-1. The Bulldogs opened the season by winning two-of-three from Belmont over the weekend. The Bulldogs took the first game, 7-3, fell in game two, 14-4 and then won the series finale, 10-1.
 
Samford was led at the plate last weekend by Cade Carr, hitting .455 (5-for-11) with a double and four RBI. Jake Souders is hitting .400 (4-for-10) with a double and an RBI. Luke Boykin, in his Samford debut, hit .333 (4-for-12) with two home runs and seven RBI.
 
Samford junior pitcher Andrew Marble was named the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday. Marble made his Samford debut in Saturday's 10-1 win over Belmont. Marble pitched 5.1 innings, giving up no runs on one hit and striking out four batters to earn the win.

Tuesday's game marks the first of eight games on Samford's 2026 schedule against SEC opponents. This weekend, Samford will play a three-game series at Georgia, the Bulldogs will play at Alabama on April 7, will take on Auburn, Mar. 3 at Auburn and April 21 at the Hoover Met and host Mississippi State on April 14.

Alabama enters the week with a record of 2-1. The Crimson Tide won two-of-three games from  Washington State over the weekend. Alabama dropped the first game, 8-4 and then took the last two games, 8-1 and 11-1.

Alabama was led at the plate by Bryce Fowler, hitting .500 (4-for-8). Justin Lebron homered twice for the Crimson Tide.
