GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. AUBURN (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team will take on the sixth-ranked Auburn Tigers Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
 
Samford and Auburn are meeting for the 108th time, with Auburn holding an 81-25-1 series lead. Earlier this season, the teams met in Auburn, with the Tigers taking a 6-2 win at Plainsman Park. Samford's last win in the series came on May 12, 2021 in a 6-1 victory at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
 
Samford comes into Tuesday night's game with a record of 20-18 overall and 8-4 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs swept three games at UNC Greensboro over the weekend. The Bulldogs won the games by scores of 11-5, 9-4 and 14-1 in seven innings.
 
Samford is scheduled to start left-handed pitcher Palmer O'Beirne on the mound Tuesday night. O'Beirne has a 1-0 record and an ERA of 5.40. 
 
Samford has been led at the plate so far this season by Jake Souders, who enters the week on a 31-game reached base streak. For the season, Souders is hitting .404 (59-of-146) with nine home runs and 34 RBI. Luke Boykin leads the team in home run with 11 and in RBI with 41.
 
Gus Gandy is hitting .331 (43-of-130) with eight doubles, three home runs and 19 RBI. Pierce Dutton is hitting .313 (20-of-64), Cade Carr is hitting .309 (43-of-139), while Trey Higgins has a .308 (37-of-120) average.
 
Auburn comes into Tuesday night's game with a mark of 27-12 overall and 10-8 in the SEC. Last weekend, the Tigers won two-of-three games at Florida. Auburn dropped the first game, 6-3, but came back to take the final two games, 5-3 and 8-5.

Auburn is scheduled to start left-handed pitcher Griffin Graves. Entering the game, Graves has a record of 1-0 and an ERA of 7.36.

Auburn has been led at the plate by Eric Guevara batting .362 (51-of-141) with eight doubles, seven home runs and 28 RBI. Bub Terrell leads the team in home runs with nine. Chris Rembert and Mason McCraine share the team lead in RBI with 30 each.
