Former Bulldog Stephen Jones Called Up To The Major Leagues

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Miami Marlins called former Samford pitcher Stephen Jones up to the Major Leagues, the organization announced Thursday.
 
Jones played at Samford from 2016 to 2019. For his career, he had a 14-10 record with 13 saves and a 4.23 ERA. At the conclusion of the 2019 season, Jones was named second team All-SoCon by both the coaches and the media.
 
After his junior season in 2018, Jones was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies but decided to return for his senior season. Following his senior campaign in 2019, Jones was taken by the Colorado Rockies in the 21st round of the MLB Draft.
 
Jones has spent the last seven seasons in the minor leagues. He has posted a record of 21-12 with an ERA of 5.15 to go along with 23 saves. He has recorded 341 strikeouts, while allowing 140 walks.
 
Most recently, Jones has spent the 2026 season with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos of the AA Southern League. This season, he has posted a record of 2-1 and an ERA of 3.24 in 10 appearances.
