GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. GEORGIA STATE (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford soccer team will play host to the Georgia State Panthers Thursday at 6 p.m. at Shauna Yelton Field. Admission to the game is free and the contest can be seen live on ESPN+.

Samford and Georgia State have met nine times, with GSU holding a 5-3-1 series lead. The teams met last season in Atlanta, with Samford earning a 3-0 win. Samford has won the last three meetings in a row.  

Samford has an all-time record of 35-11-7 against the current members of the Sun Belt Conference. Samford has played the following SBC teams: Appalachian State (6-0-1), Arkansas State (1-0), Coastal Carolina (1-0-1), Georgia Southern (9-1-2), Georgia State (3-5-1), Marshall (1-0), South Alabama (1-1-2), Southern Miss (2-3) and Troy (11-1).
 
Samford enters Thursday night's contest with a record of 1-0-1. The Bulldogs opened the season with a 0-0 draw at No. 2 Notre Dame last Wednesday evening before earning a 2-0 win over Belmont Sunday night at Shauna Yelton Field.

In the win over Belmont, Samford freshman Hayven Laurendine and senior Martha Bishop scored a goal each for the Bulldogs. Junior and Florida transfer Brinley Murphy had two assists, while freshman Addison Smith added an assist. Goalkeeper Peyton Hull posted her second shutout of the season. Hull was named the SoCon Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts.

Samford head coach Todd Yelton is in his 25th season in charge of the program. He has a career record of 342-154-74, and he is Samford's all-time winningest coach with a mark of 302-122-70 in his time with the Bulldogs.

Georgia State has a mark of 1-1 on the young season. The Panthers opened the season with a 4-2 loss at UAB last Wednesday and then defeated Truett McConnell, 7-0 on Sunday.

The Panthers have been led by Aaliyah Faddoul with four goals and one assist for nine points. Gabriela Gonzalez has netted two goals so far this season. Georgia State goalkeeper Alondra Iriarte has a 2.30 goals against average, allowing four goals in 156:44.
