Football Places 10 On Preseason All-SoCon Teams

SPARTANBURG, S.C.—Samford placed 10 players on the Southern Conference's Football Coaches' Preseason All-Conference team, released by the league at its annual Football Media Day Wednesday afternoon.

The SoCon also released its preseason polls for both the coaches and media. Samford tied for second in the preseason coaches' polls, and the Bulldogs placed third in the media's preseason poll. Chattanooga was picked as the preseason favorite in both polls. In the coaches' polls, Furman tied with Samford for second, and the Paladins were picked second in the media poll.

Five Samford players made the first team of the Preseason All-Conference team. Offensive lineman Gunnar Bromelow, defensive back James Bradberry, safety Jaquiski Tartt, place-kicker Warren Handrahan and punter Greg Peranich were all named to the first team.

Samford's representatives on the second team were offensive lineman C.H. Scruggs, tight end Tony Philpot, wide receiver Karel Hamilton, defensive lineman Jerry Mathis and linebacker Bobby Wilson.

Bromelow started all 13 games and was one of the leaders of the offensive line last season. He served as the team's starting right tackle in 2013.

Bradberry had 26 tackles, including 17 solo stops, while starting all 13 games at cornerback last season. Bradberry had two interceptions and led the team with 10 pass break-ups.

Tartt, who was named preseason All-American earlier this month, tied for third on the team in tackles last season with 98, including a team-high 69 solo stops. He intercepted one pass and broke up nine passes.

Handrahan, another preseason All-American, ranked third in the conference in scoring and first in the league in scoring by kick. He averaged 7.5 points per game last season. Handrahan made 19-of-24 field goals, including a long kick of 48 yards. He was also good on 40-of-41 extra-point attempts.

Peranich punted 68 times for a school-record average of 42.9 yards per kick. He placed 23 kicks inside the 20-yard line.
