CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The road woes continued for Samford's women's tennis team Saturday as the Bulldogs dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision to the Chattanooga Lady Mocs in a regular-season finale held at the UTC Tennis Courts.
With Saturday's setback,
Samford (8-14, 3-7 SoCon) concluded the 2013 campaign with an 0-11 record on the road this season. The Bulldogs' most recent victory away from home occurred April 7, 2012, at Appalachian State, 4-3.
Samford finished the regular season as the No. 8-seeded team in the upcoming SoCon Tournament. The Bulldogs will square off against the ninth-seeded Davidson Wildcats on Thursday at 8 a.m. (CDT) at the Burlington Tennis Center.
Chattanooga (17-4, 6-4 SoCon) swept the doubles point Saturday and then claimed singles victories on courts No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6.
Samford's singles wins came from
Stephanie N'tcha on court No. 2, 6-4, 6-0,
Carita Moolman on court No. 4, 6-4, 0-6, 6-0, and
Emily Mallory in the No. 5 singles contest, 3-6, 7-6(8), 1-0(5).
The Lady Mocs jumped out to a 3-1 lead Saturday and clinched their overall team victory on court No. 6 where Claire Mulyadi topped the Bulldogs'
AnnMarie Lyon, 4-6, 6-2, 6-0. Samford's Mallory then closed out the competition with her three-set triumph on court No. 5.
Mallory, the Bulldogs' junior native of Louisville, Ky., closed out the regular season with a team-best 13-7 record in singles play, while N'tcha improved to 12-9 this year.
