SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Samford University basketball team will attempt to win back-to-back road games against the Wofford Terriers for the first time in school history Saturday as the Bulldogs take a two-game Southern Conference winning streak to Johnson Arena for a key league matchup slated to begin at 6 p.m. (CT).

Samford (9-13, 3-4 SoCon) heads into the contest riding the positive momentum of consecutive home conference victories against UNCG, 88-78, and Elon, 62-59.

In its recent home win over Elon on Jan. 25, Samford boasted a stingy defensive performance en route to the big-time triumph versus the SoCon-favorite Elon Phoenix in a pivotal league contest held at the Pete Hanna Center.

Samford turned in a brilliant 52.3-percent shooting performance from the field and limited Elon, the league's top scoring team at 77.1 points per game, to only 59 points and a 39.2-percent outing from the floor.

The bulk of the Bulldogs' scoring came from the triumvirate of Tim Williams, Raijon Kelly and Tyler Hood, which combined to record 40 of the team's 62 points.

Williams, Samford's 6-foot-8 forward from Chicago, Ill., paced all scorers with 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field, while pulling down 10 rebounds for his second straight double-double and third of the 2013-14 campaign. Earlier in the week, Williams exploded for 29 points and 12 rebounds in the Bulldogs' 88-78 victory over UNCG.

Just a sophomore, Williams, the reigning SoCon Freshman of the Year, has already registered nine double-doubles in his career. He was named the league's Player of the Week for his outstanding efforts Tuesday. In a pair of game last week, Williams averaged 24 points and 11 rebounds per contest.

In 2011-12, the Bulldogs won at Wofford (10-10, 5-3 SoCon) for the first time since joining the SoCon five years ago. The Terriers are in the midst of a three-game winning streak and recently defeated Furman, 76-52, on Jan. 25.

Since losing rare back-to-back meetings with Chattanooga on Jan. 11 and Jan. 18, Wofford has bounced back to rattle off three straight victories against Western Carolina, Georgia Southern and Furman. The Terriers boast a 5-3 record at home this season.

Wofford heads into Saturday's matchup as the top defensive team in the conference. The Terriers are only allowing opponents to score an average of 65.1 points per game in 2013-14, and are nationally-ranked No. 54 in the category.

Offensively, Wofford is being paced by Karl Cochran (14.6 ppg), Spencer Collins (13.9 ppg) and Lee Skinner (10.9 ppg).

On Saturday, the Bulldogs will face Wofford for the second time this year and the 12th time in school history. Samford trails the Terriers in the all-time series, 4-7, and dropped a hard-fought decision to Wofford at home, 71-61, on Jan. 2. When playing in Spartanburg, S.C., the series is deadlocked at 2-2, including Samford's 66-61 overtime win in 2012.

In this season's first meeting, which was held in the teams' SoCon-opener Jan. 2, Samford led the contest by as many as seven points in the second half, including a 57-53 advantage with 4:52 remaining, but Wofford closed out the game with a conclusive 18-4 run to rally for the victory.

In the final four minutes and change to play, the Terriers' Cochran scored eight of his game-high 27 points to spark Wofford's comeback. Cochran, a 6-foot-1 guard from Marietta, Ga., finished 10-of-17 from the field and tied his career-high with six 3-point field goals. He also registered six rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.

Samford shot a sizzling 54.3 percent from the field, but only connected on two field goals in the final four minutes of game action.

The Bulldogs committed 12 turnovers and were outrebounded 32-22, including an 11-3 margin on the offensive end of the court.

Samford's Hood scored a season-high 22 points versus Wofford and finished a perfect 4-of-4 from 3-point range. The Bulldogs' junior forward from Lenoir City, Tenn., concluded the game with an 8-of-10 performance from the field and pulled down four rebounds.

Samford has been brilliant at home this season and owns an 8-2 mark when playing at the Pete Hanna Center. Already this season, the Bulldogs boast a point differential of +6.4 at home, but hold a -14.1 disparity when competing on the road.

Williams has scored in double figures in 20 of Samford's 22 games this season and is averaging a team-high 17.1 points per contest in 2013-14.

The Bulldogs are undefeated when out-rebounding the opposition in 2013-14. Samford owns an unblemished 5-0 mark when out-rebounding its opponent this season, but is just 4-12 when losing the rebounding battle.

Samford is shooting a stellar 52.2 percent from 2-point range this season and has already registered 456 free-throw attempts.

Last season, the Bulldogs shot 48.9 percent from 2-point range and only attempted a total of 502 free throws in 32 games. Samford is averaging 20.7 free throws per contest this year, as compared to 15.7 in 2012-13. The Bulldogs are also averaging 14.9 layups per game since Nov. 23.

With Samford's up-tempo offense and hardnosed man-to-man defensive mindset, Head Coach Bennie Seltzer realizes that there will always be a need for quickness, agility and speed on his roster.

The Bulldogs' 2013-14 squad boasts 10 guards, including five players capable of filling the point guard position out of the 16-man roster. The only non-guards on the team are forwards Eric Adams, Jordan Capps, Hood, Emeka Ikezu, Williams and center Michael Bradley.

The Bulldogs have made at least one 3-point field goal in 679-consecutive games. The last time that Samford did not make a 3-point basket was on Jan. 19, 1991, against UTSA.

The Bulldogs' streak of having made at least two 3-pointers in a game was snapped on Dec. 13, 2008, against Saint Louis when Samford turned in a dismal 1-for-14 performance from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs' streak of 476-straight games with two 3-pointers began Feb. 8, 1992.

UNLV is the national leader in consecutive games with a 3-point field goal as the Running Rebels have made a 3-point basket in 877-straight games dating back to the 1986-87 season. Vanderbilt (871) and Kentucky (868) are the only other two schools that have made at least one 3-point basket since the rule was adopted prior to the 1986 campaign.

Following Saturday's key SoCon matchup at Wofford, the Samford University basketball team will next be in action Monday at 6 p.m. (CST) as the Bulldogs continue their two-game road trip against the Furman Paladins in another pivotal league contest to be held at Timmons Arena in Greenville.
