Robert Adams registered the best performance of his young, up-and-coming career Tuesday as the Bulldogs' talented sophomore from Germantown, Tenn., carded a 54-hole total of 6-under-par 210 and earned a sixth-place finish at the 2014 F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate.
Adams turned in a score of par or better in each of his three rounds of the tournament and finished just eight strokes behind first-place Logan Hogge (202) of Morehead State. Adams notched in his best score of the two-day competition Monday with a sizzling second-round tally of 4-under-par 68.
As a team, Samford finished the talent-laden competition in sole possession of ninth place. The Bulldogs concluded the event with a three-round team score of 875 (297-286-292). Ultimately, Samford finished just six strokes behind sixth-place Murray State.
Host-school Austin Peay, playing at its home course, The Links at Novadell, cruised to an eight-stroke victory Tuesday with a score of 22-under-par 842. UT Martin (850), Eastern Kentucky (851), Belmont (854) and Southern Illinois (854) rounded out the top five.
Samford's
Austin Jackson turned in the team's best score Tuesday with a 2-under-par 70. The Bulldogs' sophomore native of Germantown, Tenn., closed out the tournament with a three-round tally of 219 and finished tied for 25
th place in the individual standings.
Rounding out Samford's scoring in the 2014 F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate were sophomore
Garrett Moores (225), as well as juniors
Jake Miller (231) and
Mac Hennessy (232).
The field for this week's tournament consisted of the following 12 teams: Samford, host-school Austin Peay, Belmont, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Morehead State, Murray State, Southern Illinois, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, UT Martin and Western Illinois.
The Samford University men's golf team will next be in action Nov. 1-2, as the Bulldogs head to Cashiers, N.C., for the 2014 Western Carolina Hummingbird Intercollegiate, which will be held at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley. The WCU Hummingbird Intercollegiate will be Samford's final competition of the fall season.
