ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The Samford men's golf team finished third and sophomore Gavin Isbell placed second individually in the Peoples Championship, hosted by Western Carolina Thursday through Saturday.
 
As a team, Samford finished with a three-round score of 10-under-par 842 (278-285-279) to finish third in the 21-team field. Xavier won the event, while the host, Western Carolina came in second.
 
Isbell finished with a three-round score of 10-under-par 203 (66-69-68) to finish second in the 123-player field. Jack Mikesell finished in a tie for ninth at 209 (68-71-70), while Blake Gayles tied for 30^th at 215 (74-73-68). Matthew Smith tied for 55^th with a score of 219 (72-74-73), while Tiaan Hugo tied for 71^st at 222 (72-72-78).
 
Samford will next compete in the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, March 30-31.
