Bulldogs Have Strong Showing At Georgia Tech Invite

Atlanta, Ga. – The Samford University track and field team performed in its final regular season meet of the season at the Georgia Tech Invitational.

The Bulldogs racked up six top ten finishes on the day; senior Emily Allen placed the highest with her second place finish in the women's hammer throw. Allen recorded a toss of 59.65m in the event.

Samford recorded a pair of top-ten finishes in the women's triple jump as Nicole Charley and Allen placed fourth (12.59m) and seventh (12.33m) respectively.

Claire Goodson rounded out the women's efforts in the field competitions with a sixth place finish of 3.98m (13' 0.75") in the women's pole vault.

The SU women rounded out competition in the distance events as Marie Demedicis placed sixth in women's 800-meter with a time of 2:08.41 and Lauren D'Alessio took 20th in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:34.81.

The men followed up the women with five top ten finishes on the day; three on the track and two in field competition.

Adam Jones picked up the best finish for the men on the day after a taking second place in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:44.89; Layton Dorsett finished 16th in the event with a time of 3:58.52.

The men garnered a fifth place finish in the 4x400 competition as Jonathan Bush, Jay Vines, Steven Bastien and Nathan Hendershot turned in a school-record time of 3:15.98. The 4 guys with one lone senior (Jonathan Bush) were able to break a 12 year old record from 2002.

Brandon Hazouri and Hendershot took seventh (1:49.79) and 13th place (1:50.87) respectively in the 800-meter.

Brandon Bassett notched a pair of solid performances in the long jump and javelin competitions with scores of 7.26m (6th) and 53.96 (14th) respectively; the score in the long jump for Bassett is a personal-best.

Owen Wagoner rounded out the men's side of competition with a pole vault score of 4.78m with gave him a seventh place finish.
